PageForth. An AI News Reader for Mac That Doesn’t Need RSS

I miss RSS readers.

Maybe not RSS the specification exactly. But the concept of having one inbox for the insane amount of stuff I liked to visit on the internet, so I didn’t have to keep going back to all those sites piecemeal.

But RSS died. Everyone just used Facebook/X/Hacker News/etc as their news inbox. RSS also never provided a good way for folks to still get paid if their whole article was being read elsewhere. And writing summaries for each article was a pain in the ass.

Then we got AI.

So what if there were a news reader that didn’t care if sites even used RSS anymore? What if it didn’t matter that authors didn’t have time to write summaries? What if you could skim those summaries, then go read the original article when something was actually worth your time?

I built that. It’s called PageForth.

It uses a Mac’s AI capabilities to summarize that pile of news and random websites automatically for you.

If a site has a feed, great. PageForth can use it. If it doesn’t, who cares.

Paste in a blog, a newsletter archive, Hacker News, whatever. PageForth looks at the page and figures out which links are articles.

And now it’s so much easier to just speed through things. If something looks interesting you can dig in and read the real piece.

If even the summaries start feeling like too much, there’s a For You inbox. It learns from the stuff you like reading and surfaces the things it thinks you’ll like next.

There’s another mode I’ve been having fun with called Sleeper Hits.

It takes those For You articles but filters out the ones already being linked and talked about like crazy everywhere else. Maybe now you find the interesting thing before everyone else does.
